The Bermuda Tennis Development Foundation’s sole
purpose is to raise funding for our talented young local players. From
past events, top ranked juniors such as Caitlin Gordon, Jasmine Quinn,
David Thomas, Mackenzie Bean, and others were able to benefit and traveled
overseas to tournaments in the US. This year we are hoping to raise funds
once again so that more juniors can have such an experience. Members of Committtee
Funds previously raised from the Classic were used to send top juniors
to participate in the International Tennis Federation Caribbean 14 &
under Championships, where Bermuda placed third out of thirteen countries.
This was the second consecutive year that Bermuda has secured this success.
The juniors who are benefiting from last years fund raiser include:
Ms. Carolita Joseph, Cayla Cross, Matteo Frazzoni, Neil Towlson, Kieran Joynes, Na'im Azhar,
Alexander Cooper and Charles Skater, accompanied by coaches Colie Place and Steve Bean.
The juniors will be participating in the JITIC which will be taking place in the Dominican Republic.
The JITIC is a regional ITF tournament where all of the top players from the Spanish and English
speaking countries participate. Points for both individual and country events are offered.
This tournament carries significant importance as the ITF's top development officers are there to
analyze players representing their countries and the developmental programs of countries can be
scrutinized from level of play by juniors. Also several college scouts and reps of companies
such as Babolat and Reebok to name a few are looking to offer sponsorship to players.
As a result of a successful 2006 event we are proud to say that we were able to assist 8
players and two coaches’ finances for the JITIC event.
